Hoses can be one of the most frequently abused issues regarding pump systems.  Too frequently we find that our factory hoses are not replaced with original equipment.   Many of our customers assume that the hose they purchase from the local hose vendor will be equal to the ones we provided with the original pump.  In most cases we find that these aftermarket replacements don't live up to what we distribute to our customers.   The key element that we find missing in most replacements is full flow fittings.   Our hoses are all made with internally expanded fittings.  These differ from barbed fittings and crimped hose fittings.

  1. Barbed fittings are the least desirable of the three choices.  These fittings all have substantially smaller inside diameters than the hose they are inserted into, and they are typically not adequate for the pressures that can be generated.  This introduces a great deal of restriction to the flow of material through the fitting.  Typically a 1" barbed fitting will have a reduced diameter of 3/4".  While this may not sound like a lot and it is only for a very short distance, we have found that this extra restriction will cause the pump pressure to increase by as much as double that found in our hoses.  We have had customers who were using these kinds of fittings replace them with our hoses and get 2-3 times the life out of their pumps.  While this seems somewhat amazing, internally expanded fittings will give a longer pumping life out of your rotor stator.
  2. Many hose supply houses will claim that their crimp on fittings are the same as our internally expanded fittings.  This simply is not true.  Crimp on fittings while being more reliable and secure fitting than a regular hose barb fitting with a hose clamp, are no different than their counterpart barbed fittings.  The same types of problems as described above would be seen.

Next time you are considering replacing you hoses, please consider the unseen cost that can be associated with the alternative to using our OEM hose.
